Rules and Regulations
|
The United States DanceSport Championships® are conducted under the rules and regulations governing competitions and championships recognized by the National Dance Council of America, Inc. Some of the NDCA rules that directly apply to amateur competitors, along with additional rules applied by the organizer follow:

Entry Restrictions
|

Cabaret
|
The Amateur Cabaret competition is open to Adult-age competitors only. Additionally, an 18 year old that has graduated from high school may also dance in this category.
Music may not exceed four minutes, Entry to and exit from the floor may not total more than an additional 30 seconds. Music tags are allowed but are considered part of the additional 30 seconds allowed for on and off.

Newcomer / Syllabus
|
The newcomer competition is for competitors who have not placed in a final of any event in their age classification, where a semi- final was danced.
A competitor is eligible to dance in the”Syllabus”, “Novice” or “Pre-Championship” classifications until they accumulate three proficiency points. There is no limit to the number of proficiency points that may be accumulated in the “Championship” level. See point accumulation below:

Pre-teen, Junior, Youth
|
♦ Pre-teen competitors who dance a U.S. Championship event may not dance in 1 or 2 dance events of the same style.
♦ Junior & Youth competitors who dance a championship event may not dance in any syllabus event of the same style.
♦Pre-Teens & Juniors may dance up one age category in each competition style.
♦"Youth" competitors will be allowed to dance in the “Youth” divisions and the "Adult" Novice, Pre-Championship or Championship with the following restriction: "Youth" competitors may dance a maximum of two events in each competition category ie. "Youths" may dance two of the following four events in each category: "Youth", “Novice”, Pre-Championship" and "Championship". Additionally couples who enter the youth syllabus event may not enter any adult event in that same style.
